Lewis Hamilton is set to start the Italian Grand Prix from the back of the grid due to an engine change as a result of the damage suffered at the Belgian Grand Prix.

Ahead of the Italian Grand Prix Mercedes is fitting Lewis Hamilton’s car with his fourth engine of the season. The previous unit has been damaged in a collision with Fernando Alonso at the Belgian Grand Prix.

It has not yet been revealed which components are being changed, but in any case he will be receiving a grid penalty and start from the back of the grid.

There is however a chance that Mercedes will be able to recover Lewis’ third power unit in the future, but it will take time, because the team is still working on a “recovery plan”.

However, the good news is that Lewis will not be the only driver dropping back, as Valtteri Bottas’ engine penalty has already been confirmed. It is also being reported that Ferrari is considering taking a grid penalty, as well as Red Bull with Sergio Perez.

This means that Lewis’ exact starting position will be determined depending on where all of them qualify.

Another positive is that Monza is famous for its overtaking opportunities, so it should be easier to move up the grid.
