After the Miami Grand Prix, Christian Horner mocked Mercedes and Ferrari because of their performance, but then added that “they are working hard on big upgrades for Europe”.

At the Miami Grand Prix, Red Bull was once again in a different league compared to everybody else on the grid.

After the race, Red Bull team boss Christian Horner took the opportunity to take a dig at his team’s main rivals – Mercedes and Ferrari.

“Five races, five wins, plus the sprint, four one-two finishes,” Horner told Sky Sports F1.

“We’ve never, ever had a start like this. We are wondering: ‘Where are the others?’

“We have made a normal step over the winter. Where did Ferrari and Mercedes go?”

However, Horner highlighted the fact that his team will start feeling the effects of their 2021 budget cap breach penalty.

“[Mercedes and Ferrari] are working hard on big upgrades for Europe. With the penalty, we have to upgrade our car later in the year.

“It’s important for us to get as much fresh air as we can, between ourselves and the opposition.

“You’ll see from the next race that big upgrades are coming. We have to be super selective in what we test and what we develop.

“The car got off to a great start so we aren’t having to solve big issues, big problems. We are able to focus on incremental gains,” the Briton concluded.
