British tennis superstar Emma Raducanu says Lewis Hamilton gave her support and advice after her US Open victory and adds she is rooting for him in the SPOTY awards.

19-year-old Emma Raducanu is at the top of the tennis world after she won the US Open earlier this year. However, with her success also come many pressures that are sometimes hard for a young person to cope with.

Emma, a big Formula 1 fan, reveals she has received words of encouragement and support from Lewis Hamilton when she met him at the Met Gala in New York.

“I met him in person at the Gala and we had a really good conversation there,” Raducanu said.

“He’s just been really cool in helping me. He said: ‘Be patient, you’ve just got to ride the wave. It’s all good. Don’t worry’.

“Good reassurance. He’s a really cool guy.”

Now they are both nominated for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award, but Emma reveals she doesn’t think she can win.

“No, definitely not. I am rooting for Lewis in the race. I just don’t even think about it.

“For me, it’s something that’s so far out of the realms of possibility,” she concluded.
