FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem says the FIA will “analyse the rules” regarding what happened at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and “make the necessary improvements”.
After the controversial ending of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, that saw the FIA ignore the rules of the Safety Car, which basically handed Max Verstappen the 2021 championship, FIA’s World Motorsport Council decided it will hold a “clarification exercise” regarding the situation.
While in Spain, newly elected FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem told the local media that it could lead to rule changes.
“I have studied all the facts,” Ben Sulayem said.
“We have a dynamic sport and the rules also have to be dynamic. Rules should always be improved.

“The development of motorsport is going very fast and you have to adapt to that, but being proactive rather than reactive.
“Decisions will be made to move forward, without pressure from anyone. But that does not mean that we are not going to analyse the rules and make the necessary improvements.
“The rules are written by humans, not by gods, so they have to be evolved by men as well,” the FIA’s president concluded.
We have to note here that while the rules can definitely be improved, the main problem at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix were not the rules, but the fact that they were not followed.
