Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur says negotiations with Adrian Newey fell through because “his ideas were different from what I had in mind for him”.
There has been a lot of talk in 2024 about the possibility of former Red Bull Chief Technical Officer Adrian Newey joining Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari in 2025.
However, although the official announcement is yet to be made, it is now clear that the legendary designer will join Aston Martin on a reported £30m a year long-term deal.
In a talk with L’Equipe, Ferrari’s team boss Frederic Vasseur reveals he held talks with Newey, but an agreement could not be reached.
“Newey? There were discussions, yes,” Vasseur said.
“But probably his ideas were different from what I had in mind for him. Maybe one day we will find common ground.

“But as I said, it is not an individual that changes the outcome of a team. The group is always stronger than the individual.”
However, in recently announced staff changes, Ferrari confirmed that Mercedes’ former Performance Director Loïc Serra will join the team as their new Technical Director Chassis.
“His [Serra’s] strength is that we are talking about an experienced man who has spent a lot of time at the highest level,” Vasseur explained.
Additionally, Mercedes’ former Driver Development Director Jérôme d’Ambrosio will also join Ferrari as Deputy Team Principal and leader of its Driver Academy.
“For me it was important to have someone with his knowledge. In the racing world, he has been a driver, team principal, CEO,” Vasseur concluded.
