Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff says there’s at least a 50/50 chance that Mercedes’ 2022 line-up will be announced next week at the Italian Grand Prix.

Rumours about Mercedes’ 2022 line-up have been all over the place for some time now. With today’s announcement that Valtteri Bottas has signed with Alfa Romeo for next year, there’s no doubt that George Russell will soon be announced as Lewis Hamilton‘s new team-mate.

Canal+ reported yesteday that Russell’s signing will be announced on Tuesday. The Daily Mail has reported that Russell has been signed at the Dutch Grand Prix.

Furthermore, 2016 F1 champion (and former Mercedes driver) Nico Rosberg reported a rumour yesterday that Netflix was called in to film George Russell’s Mercedes contract signing for their series Drive to Survive, after the race.

“By the way, on George Russell, I’ve got a rumour,” Rosberg said.

“A certain streaming service was called into the office of Toto to film the signatures. So I don’t know, that’s the rumour that is circulating in the paddock.”

However, GPFans Global reported today that they learned the Netflix rumour was false, because Wolff left the circuit immediately after completing his post-race media duties.

When asked if the 2022 announcement could be made at Monza, Wolff himself said the contract is still not signed.

“There’s a pretty good chance, at least 50/50,” the Austrian told Sky Sports F1.

“The reason for waiting is the signature on the paper.”

However, with today’s announcement, it wouldn’t be at all surprising if Russell’s signing was revelaed tomorrow.
