George Russell shoots down rumours that Mercedes might announce his signing for 2022 during the British Grand Prix weekend.

With Lewis Hamilton’s contract for 2022 and beyond settled, one question now remains: who will be his team-mate?

Toto Wolff recently said the choice is between Mercedes’ current driver – Valtteri Bottas and their junior driver – George Russell.

Some have speculated that Mercedes could announce an all-British 2022 driver line-up of Hamilton and Russell at Silverstone, however, the young Briton says this is not the case.

On the latest episode of the F1 Nation podcast, Russell was asked if he has indeed already signed with Mercedes.

“I signed with Mercedes five or six years ago now,” the Briton said, but he was talking about his junior driver contract.

“That is 100% true. As everybody knows, they look after me.

“But with regards to my drive for next year, nothing has been signed or sealed, and nothing will be announced in Silverstone.

“So I can let you know that,” George concluded.
