Lewis Hamilton sticks up for Valtteri Bottas after he got criticised for ‘leaving the door open’ for Max Verstappen. In addition, Max calls the criticism “a cheap shot”.

After the Mexican Grand Prix Toto Wolff and Lewis Hamilton both mentioned that Valtteri Bottas could have done more to prevent Max Verstappen from getting into his tow and shooting up to P1 on race start.

This prompted a lot of fans to start criticising the Finn, even going so far as to say he did it on purpose. Well, Hamilton has now come to the defence of his team-mate in an Instagram post.

“We all have bad days. We live and we learn,” the Briton wrote.

“Yesterday I said that [Bottas] left the door open and naturally people will jump to criticise. We are a team and we win and we lose as a team.

“There is not one single person responsible for winning or losing, we do it together good or bad. You may be able to beat us but you can’t break us!

“Onto the next one Valtteri, let’s keep pushing bro,” Lewis concluded.

Verstappen also gave words of support for Bottas during an interview with De Telegraaf.

“You have to leave a car width of space, otherwise he would have gotten a penalty,” Max said.

“I don’t really know what Toto is talking about. You can very easily blame it on Valtteri, but I think that’s a bit of a cheap shot.”
