Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen clashed at the start of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, which left the Briton with a damaged front wing. The pair disagree over whether there was any contact.
Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen battled wheel-to-wheel for P1 at the start of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. When the duo passed through the first chicane, a piece of Hamilton’s front wing could be seen dangling.
In the post-race press conference Lewis and Max discussed whether there was any contact between them.
“I don’t think we touched,” Verstappen said, which prompted Hamilton to reply: “We did, we did”.
“We touched? I need to see the video then,” the Dutch driver said, to which Lewis replied: “My endplate got damaged, I don’t know exactly”.

Verstappen however still wasn’t convinced: “I don’t think we touched! I have to watch the video again”.
“I didn’t get a good start,” Lewis went on to explain.
“Max got a better start than me and I think I was slightly ahead going into Turn 2, but I was basically avoiding us coming together.
“Max was just coming… across, so we had that touch and I had to use the exit, take those big kerbs, but I’m grateful I just got through it and didn’t damage much more than the endplate.”
