Lewis Hamilton says sharing the Chinese Grand Prix podium with Kimi Antonelli, George Russell and Peter Bonnington – Bono, was “like sitting here with my whole family”.
At the Chinese Grand Prix podium, Lewis Hamilton had the opportunity to reunite with his former race engineer Peter Bonnington – Bono, his former team-mate George Russell and former Mercedes junior driver Kimi Antonelli.
Afterwards, he explained the significance this moment held for him.
“Obviously to have been such a part of Mercedes through my career…,” Lewis started.
“They supported me from almost day one, 1997, I was 13 — so to then go through that journey with them and have the success with them…
“And obviously George and I had some difficult years in that past era, so it’s really special to see them back at the front because it’s a phenomenal team.

“And I know we’ve got our work cut out to beat them because when they’re on form like this it’s not easy to beat.
“To see George come through the sport and then get to Formula 1, and now see Kimi come through and to be able to be here with them, especially as Kimi took my seat…
“And then Bono, I’ve worked with for so long, so it’s like sitting here with my whole family.
“So that’s great,” Hamilton concluded.
The feeling was shared by everybody involved, with Bono calling it “a hell of a moment” and “really touching”.
