Amid rumours that Ferrari is preparing a contract offer for Lewis Hamilton, the Briton says his new Mercedes deal is almost signed.

The Daily Mail recently published a rumour that Ferrari is planning to offer Lewis Hamilton £40million to leave Mercedes and join the red team, and this report has since been relayed by numerous other Formula 1 news outlets.

When asked about this ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton said his deal with Mercedes is almost signed..

“My team are having discussions with the team [Mercedes] in the background and we’re almost there,” he told Sky Sports F1.

Asked if he had any contact with Ferrari, the Briton was blunt: “No.”

Lewis also explained the speculation in the media is understandable, but completely false.

“Naturally when you’re in contract negotiations there’s always going to be speculation.

“Ultimately, unless you hear it from me, that’s all it is. Maybe with the race [in Imola last weekend] being cancelled, they just got bored.

“My team’s working closely behind the scenes with Toto. We’re almost at the end of having a contract ready.

“Having a team focus on that so I can just do my job is a much better position than I was in before because I remember I used to do negotiations on my own and it was very stressful, so I don’t have to do that anymore.

“This is the first time that I’ve not been negotiating myself. I have a great team in the background doing all the work so I can focus on the job at hand.

“I say what I want and that’s what we’re working towards. Hopefully in the coming weeks [the contract will be signed].”

When asked if he had any contacts with any other teams, Lewis said:

“No, I haven’t. It’s just figuring out the small details, so hopefully soon it will be done.

“I’m just trying to focus on doing my job. This weekend we’ve got a new upgrade, the team have worked so hard to bring these upgrades, so that’s where my energy is going towards.

“I’m not looking to be tempted into anything else,” he concluded.
