After the Mexican Grand Prix Free Practice 1 Lewis Hamilton has been summoned to the stewards for an alleged track limits breach.

Lewis Hamilton was summoned before the stewards for allegedly not following the race director’s instructions regarding rejoining the track, after he went straight on through the grass at Turn 1, then rejoining the circuit on entry to Turn 3.

The instruction is that “Any driver who leaves the track on the left-hand side between Turns 1 and 2, or who passes to the left of the bollard on the apex of Turn 2, must re-join the track by driving to the left-hand side of the bollard at Turn 3.”

After deliberating, the stewards decided to hand the Briton a reprimand.

“Car 44 left the track on the left hand-side between Turns 1 and 2 and re-joined the track between Turns 2 and 3, rather than re-joining by driving to the left-hand side of the bollard at Turn 3,” read the FIA’s statement.

“Whilst noting the driver’s comments in relation to track conditions and his attempt to steer to the left after leaving the track, the Stewards consider this to be a failure to follow the Race Director’s instruction given in article 21.1a) of the Race Director’s Event Notes.”

This is Lewis’ first reprimand of the season, so there will not be any further consequences this weekend. If a driver gets three reprimands over a season, they receive a ten-place grid penalty.
