Lewis Hamilton says he is “really grateful and really excited about the work” team boss Frederic Vasseur is doing at Ferrari.
Although Lewis Hamilton’s decision to switch to Ferrari in 2025 was a shock to many, when the move is examined more closely, it’s not as surprising as it might have seemed at first.
One of the important factors that obviously played a part in Lewis’ decision is the fact that the Ferrari team is now led by Frederic Vasseur, who has a history with Lewis in junior racing categories.
When asked about his decision during a pre-season testing drivers’ press conference, Lewis said he believes his move to Ferrari wouldn’t have happened if Vasseur wasn’t involved.
“I’ve got a great relationship with Fred,” the Briton said.
“Obviously, I raced for him in Formula 3 and we had amazing success in Formula 3 and also in GP2, and that’s really where the foundation of our relationship started.

“And we just always remained in touch. I thought that he was going to be an amazing team manager at some stage and progress to Formula 1, but at the time he wasn’t interested in that.
“And it was really cool to see him step into the Alfa [Romeo, now Sauber] team. And then when he got the job at Ferrari, I was just so happy for him.
“And I think just the stars aligned. I think it really wouldn’t have happened without him.
“So I’m really grateful and really excited about the work that that he’s doing there,” Hamilton concluded.
