At the Australian Grand Prix drivers’ press conference Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen joked about the FIA’s jewellery crackdown.

In his Australian Grand Prix event notes, race director Niels Wittich reminded the drivers that wearing jewellery during on-track activities is not allowed according to Formula 1’s sporting regulations.

The rule was implemented years ago for safety reasons, but fans immediately noted that Lewis Hamilton is the only drivers who regularly wears nose and ear piercings.

Well, at the drivers’ press conference, Hamilton and Max Verstappen were seated next to each other when the journalists asked about the FIA’s crackdown.

“Well I’ve got certain piercings that I really just can’t take out, that not many people know of,” Lewis started.

“Nah I’m kidding! It’s been the rule forever, since I’ve been here it’s been the rule, so nothing new.

“I’m just going to come with more jewellery next week.”

Verstappen then went on to crack: “I will be too heavy if I wear jewellery, so it’s impossible!”

This led to a playful exchange between the two.

“I know you’ve got a nipple piercing, come on,” Hamilton joked, prompting the Dutchman to crack a joke of his own: “You want to see it again?”
