Lewis Hamilton says “there will be some sort of fine” for his failure to attend the end-of-year FIA Prize-Giving Gala held last December.
After the controversial ending of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton and Toto Wolff refused to attend the FIA Prize-Giving Gala where Max Verstappen officially received the 2022 world championship trophy.
The regulations require the top three drivers from all championships sanctioned by the FIA to attend the Gala, so it was expected that Lewis would be penalized in some way.
After meeting with FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem on Thursday, Lewis confirmed he will indeed be fined.
“There will be some sort of fine re the gala,” the Briton said.

“But we have worked together to make sure that the money will be put towards youth from underprivileged backgrounds getting into motorsports engineering.”
Lewis went on to explain his relationship with Ben Sulayem.
“I met Mohammed a long, long time ago through an event that we had in Dubai, so it is good to see him in the position he is in.
“It again adds to that diversity challenge that we are trying to overcome,” Hamilton concluded.
