Red Bull team boss Christian Horner blasts Lewis Hamilton and George Russell for their cost cap penalty comments and says “it’s always easy to throw shade when you’re not performing”.
In their media sessions ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell both criticised the penalty Red Bull received for their 2021 cost cap breach.
The Austrian team received a $7m fine and a 10 per cent reduction in aero testing time, which many teams and observers consider to be very light.
Hamilton called this penalty “a slap on the wrist”, while Russell said it “didn’t fit the crime”.
Upon hearing Hamilton and Russell’s comments, Red Bull team boss Christian Horner said the penalty has really hurt his team.
“Believe me, the hit that we’ve taken with the lack of wind tunnel time that we have compared to our competitors is a massive compromise,” the Briton told Sky Sports F1.

“If wind tunnels don’t count then why don’t we just get rid of them? It’s always easy to throw shade when you’re not performing.
“It’s one of the things in F1 that will always continue to happen.”
Horner then praised his team for how they have coped with the penalty.
“I’m just incredibly proud of the job that our team’s doing with the constraints and handicap that we have.
“To be performing at the level we have this year, to have achieved 11 straight victories… it’s been an outstanding achievement,” he concluded.
