After Red Bull announced that Adrian Newey will exit the team in early 2025, Max Verstappen’s fater Jos says “the team is in danger of falling apart”.

Adrian Newey’s early 2025 exit from Red Bull is now official. Although Newey’s reason for leaving are not officially known, it is widely believed his exit is a result of an internal power struggle within the team.

More specifically, it has been reported that Newey’s relationship with team boss Christian Horner has ‘cooled down’, after Horner was accused of ‘inappropriate behaviour’ by a female Red Bull employee.

Amid Mercedes’ open pursuit of Max Verstappen’s services, the Dutch driver already said that if he was to remain at Red Bull, the core team including advisor Helmut Marko and Newey, has to remain together.

After the news of Newey’s departure became official, De Telegraaf asked Max’s father Jos Verstappen to comment on the situation.

“The team is in danger of falling apart,” Jos said.

“I was afraid of that earlier this year. For internal peace, it is important that key people stay on board. That is not the case now.

“Newey is leaving and earlier this year it also looked like Helmut [Marko, Red Bull’s advisor] would be sent away.

“For the future, that is not good,” Verstappen concluded.

It is believed that if Newey is to join another team, his main options are Ferrari, Red Bull, Aston Martin or McLaren.

Now that it seems Verstappen could be closer to signing with Mercedes, perhaps this could play a role in Newey’s own decision-making.
