At the 2021 Bahrain Grand Prix Lewis Hamilton broke another record previously held by Michael Schumacher, the record for most laps led in the history of Formula 1.

Michael Schumacher has held the record for most laps in the lead of a grand prix, with 5,111 laps. At the start of the Bahrain Grand Prix, Lewis was 13 laps short of that record.

On lap 18 of the race Hamilton took the lead and led for 10 laps, before pitting again. On lap 40 he took the lead again and broke the record. The new record now is 5,126 laps, but there’s no doubt it will be significantly extended by the time the 2021 season comes to a close.
