After qualifying in P7 for the British Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton says Mercedes came to Silverstone “with an upgraded front wing”, but “the car was very much the same”.
Lewis Hamilton qualified for the British Grand Prix in P7, and afterwards said he is not sure why the W14 is not performing as well as everybody in the team had hoped it would.
“I’m not quite sure [where we lost out], I need to have a look,” the Briton told Sky Sports F1.
“We came here with an upgraded front wing and were hopeful it was going to propel us forward, but the car was very much the same today.
“We made some progress overnight with the setup – we were better in P3. In Quali, we just struggled right at the end. It’s a shame because there were moments it felt like we were there.

“The good thing is the crowd were great today and really happy for McLaren to see them back up there is great.”
Lewis then discussed Mercedes’ chances in the race on Sunday.
“I don’t know where our race pace is. Everyone was on different fuel loads but it didn’t look terrible. We have changed the car, so will have to see how it is tomorrow.
“But even if our race pace is good we have to overtake a bunch of cars which is not easy to do around here,” Hamilton concluded.
