Lewis Hamilton says “there’s so much to learn” from Valentino Rossi, while Rossi says they are very much alike as they both have “a great passion for motorsport”.
During their chat organized by Swiss watchmaker IWC, Lewis Hamilton and Valentino Rossi reminisced about their 2019 ride swap in Valencia.
“Since I’ve been in F1, I have a superbike and, at the end of the year, I like to go out and do some track days,” Hamilton said.
“It’s fascinating and gives you a different perspective. Obviously watching on TV is one thing, but it’s a lot different to an F1 car.
“We had the privilege of doing that car and bike swap day in Valencia, and it was a real dream come true for me to experience a MotoGP bike and to be on track with the legend himself.
“It was very, very surreal! It was a privilege to spend time with Vale and you realise the human behind the helmet and all that success.

“He’s just a really normal, decent, fun human being. Always smiling, always positive. His passion for what he does is clear – it’s no wonder, the success he’s had. There’s so much to learn from someone like him.
“It’s easier to come from bikes to cars, it’s much safer in cars. For someone like me to go to two wheels, it’s a huge transition and very very difficult. And I’m for sure too old.”
Rossi also gave his comments on the time he spent with Lewis.
“I spent time with Lewis, two days in Valencia when we swapped bike and car, and he is the same as me: he has a great passion for motorsport, Formula One, MotoGP and everything,” the Italian said.
“And he’s very curious, and always tries to understand how to go faster. For me, that passion is the base,” he concluded.
