At the Australian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton had a brief on-track encounter with Sergio Perez, and after the race he marvelled at “the speed that he had”.
At the Australian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton had a short opportunity to go wheel-to-wheel with Sergio Perez, before the Red Bull driver made a pit stop.
After that encounter, Lewis went on the radio and said: “Geez, that car is fast!”
Shortly afterwards, his car’s Power Unit failed and he was forced to retire.
After the race, he said the difference in speed between the Mercedes and the Red Bull is huge.
“It’s a massive gap,” the Briton said.

“I think they have a second on us, something like that. The speed that he had…
“I mean, he was on fresh tyres but just the way he pulled away down the straight, I was like: ‘Wow, same as last year.’”
When asked what he’d learned from the race, Lewis said:
“Nothing more than I’ve known before. We didn’t look terrible in the high-speed [corners] but we’re slow in the low-speed this weekend, whereas in the last race, we were bad in the high-speed, good in the lower stuff.
“A real struggle this weekend,” Hamilton concluded.
