Lewis Hamilton has one last appointment with the W13, on Tuesday in the Pirelli post-season test. The Briton says he “might be calling a sickie”.

For the entirety of the 2022 season, Mercedes has been struggling with its car – the W13.

Even ahead of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton indicated he will not drive the W13 ever again, once his 2022 commitments are over.

However, he still has to step into the troubled car on Tuesday, for the Pirelli post-season test. After the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the Briton joked he might find a way to avoid this commitment.

“I might be calling a sickie – my back or something,” Lewis said with a smile.

When he was asked if the 2022 season was the toughest of his career, he said:

“No, I think 2011 was probably the hardest year I have had, just in terms of life.

“This year is probably not the greatest, up there with the top three of the worst seasons but I think it is a much stronger year in terms of myself, how I have worked with the team and how we have all stayed united.

“I think there have been lots of plusses.”

In the end, the Briton said he is looking forward to unwinding over the winter break.

“Right now I am thinking about the winter,” he said.

“Time with the family, building snowmen, meet day in and day out with my niece and nephew, teaching them ski and just going to have the best time with my mum, deep conversations, train and eat healthy,” Lewis concluded.
