Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has said that F1 will move away from the ‘knee gesture ceremony’ and go “from gesture to action”. Lewis Hamilton gives his response.

Since the start of the 2020 season Formula 1 has set aside a specific time ahead of races for drivers, who wish to do so, to perform the knee gesture and take a stand against racism.

However, Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has recently said this will not be done in 2022, as the sport wants to start focusing on actions instead of gestures.

More specifically he said the drivers will still be free to perform the gesture, but there will not be any specific time set aside for this.

At the 2020 Barcelona Pre-Season Session Lewis Hamilton said he is all for having more action.

“It’s about traction now, so that’s something that I look forward to seeing over a period of time,” the Briton said.

“I had a great call last year with all the teams about getting included in this charter, so that every team is trying to push for diversity.

“I guess just really rather than just talking about these things and making these gestures, actually really pushing.

“I don’t know whether we need that one moment. We should be able to do it at any stage really.

“But I did feel that the overall slogan last year with all the different things compiled into one, I think we can do more and be more impactful somehow.

“But I don’t know what that is just yet,” Hamilton concluded.
