Lewis Hamilton says he hasn’t thought about his retirement because he’s “still got a bit to go”, but he doesn’t “plan on being here” into his 40s.

On the final day of the Bahrain Pre-Season Test Lewis Hamilton was asked if he plans to follow sporting greats like Tom Brady and Roger Federer, and keep competing at the top level into his forties.

Lewis said he’s not even thinking about that yet, but then admitted it was not his plan to remain in Formula 1 that long.

“I haven’t thought about that number, because I’m 37,” the Briton said.

“Jeez, I’ve still got a bit to go. So, I honestly haven’t thought about that, and I don’t plan on being here close to that age.

“Hopefully I’ll have some other some other fun things to get on with,” Hamilton concluded.

At the moment the oldest driver in Formula 1 is Fernando Alonso, who is 40, while Kimi Raikkonen retired from the sport at the end of last year, at 42 years old.
