After getting a fantastic P2 in Chinese Grand Prix Sprint Qualifying, Lewis Hamilton says: “As soon as I saw the rain coming, I was getting excited.”

In the wet Chinese Grand Prix Sprint Qualifying session, Lewis Hamilton produced his best result of 2024 – he finished the session in P2.

Afterwards, he explained how it all looked from his perspective.

“It was very tricky, tricky conditions, not a lot of grip as you saw for everyone, but yeah, so happy,” the Briton said.

“As soon as I saw the rain coming, I was getting excited. Naturally in dry conditions, we’re not quick enough, so when the rain came I thought I’d have a bit of a better opportunity.

“And that’s kind of when it all came alive.”

Asked to give his expectations from the Sprint Race on Saturday, Lewis said:

“It really depends what the conditions will be. If it’s like that, maybe we’ll have a chance of being somewhere up there. I think if it’s dry, then naturally the Ferraris and Red Bulls will come by.

“Maybe we can hold off some of the others,” he concluded.
