Lewis Hamilton says the performance of Mercedes’ upgrades “doesn’t have a bearing” on his future with Mercedes, “because we’re still a championship-winning team”.

Mercedes’ big upgrades for the W14 will make their on track debut today in Monaco, and many have been speculating that their performance might be the deciding factor on whether Lewis Hamilton decides to stay with the team.

Lewis, however, says this has no bearing on his future.

“No it doesn’t have a bearing because we’re still a championship-winning team, it’s just we’ve had the wrong car,” the Briton said.

“There have been some decisions that have been made over the past two years that have not been ideal, and we’re working our way through that.

“All the energy is going towards, we have a new upgrade this weekend, the team have worked incredibly hard to bring this upgrade.

“We already after Bahrain decided this is what we’re going to do, so I was a little bit gutted when the last race got cancelled because I was excited to try this new package.

“Whilst here is not the best platform, track-wise, to really see those come to fruition, we’ll hopefully experience that more next week,” Hamilton concluded.
