After shockingly getting eliminated in Q1 of United States Grand Prix Qualifying, Lewis Hamilton reveals Mercedes has a serious issue with the car.

Lewis Hamilton is not having a great United States Grand Prix weekend. First a yellow flag ruined his Sprint Qualifying, then in the Sprint Race he finished in P6, and later in Qualifying for the main race, he shockingly got eliminated in Q1.

After the session, the Briton revealed Mercedes faced a serious issue with the car in the Sprint Race.

“It’s been pretty terrible,” Hamilton said.

“The car felt great yesterday, so obviously came really optimistic for today. Something failed on the front suspension literally as we pulled away from the line for the formation lap, and I had that through the race.

“They figured that out, they changed the corner, and it felt like a mess, obviously, through qualifying.”

Lewis and the team confirmed that before the yellow flag ruined his final flying lap in Friday’s Sprint Qualifying, he was looking at a possible P1, however on Saturday the car’s performance obviously dropped.

“I don’t know what the result… This shouldn’t happen, and it’s obviously not planned.

“I was about to qualify pole yesterday, so it’s not a mental problem. When the suspension is failing or breaking, and things aren’t coming together, I mean today…

“You’ll have to ask the team what happened with the suspension. I know the guys are working as hard as they can; they did the change.

“Any performance we bring is positive. All of a sudden we were looking really quick. I don’t know where that went, but we’ll keep pushing.”

As for the race tomorrow, Lewis said:

“There’s not going to be a lot going on. I started in karts with a pretty bad go-kart and used to come through the field, so I’ll see if I can do that tomorrow,” he concluded.
