Lewis Hamilton says “something went on with the blankets” for his tyres, which led to his poor performance in Canadian Grand Prix Qualifying.

Lewis Hamilton’s performance through Canadian Grand Prix free practice sessions has been great, and he even topped FP3.

However, in Qualifying, while his team-mate George Russell managed to put his car on pole, Lewis couldn’t do better than P7.

After the race on Sunday, Lewis suspected the problem has to do with tyre blankets.

“The tyres were working throughout the weekend,” the Briton said.

“Then we got to qualifying and every time I went out of the garage, my tyres were for some reason below on temperature.

“Every set was two or three degrees lower than it should have been, and you can’t catch it up and I couldn’t switch the tyres on after that.

“That’s something we have to really look at, because something went on with the blankets, I guess,” Hamilton concluded.
