Lewis Hamilton says “Red Bull and Ferrari will be going away” in the race tomorrow, and Mercedes’ battles will be “with the guys behind”.
After qualifying in P5 for the Bahrain Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton was asked if he was relieved considering how much problems Mercedes has been having with their car.
“Oh yeah, I am not saying I am relieved, I’m genuinely really happy with today,” the Briton said.
“I think given where we have been the last two weeks, the struggles we have had, the problems we have had with the car, it has been a nightmare to drive.
“We have just kept our heads down and working away so I am just proud of everyone for staying positive.
“To get fifth in quali… those guys ahead of us are in another league so I am generally happy with where we are.

“It is not the front row but we will make improvements and we will do the best we can tomorrow.”
Asked what he thinks he can do to take the fight to the drivers at the front, Lewis said the fight tomorrow is not going to be with them.
“Red Bull and Ferrari will be going away; we’re not in the fight with those – they’re a second ahead of us [in free practice] yesterday on race pace. My battles are with the guys behind, most likely.
“I’ll try to be as fast as I can and get ahead, but their performance is quite a bit ahead of ours,” concluded Hamilton.
