Lewis Hamilton’s 2010 McLaren Mercedes MP4-25A will be auctioned off by RM Sotheby’s, ahead of the 2021 British Grand Prix.

The car, which is estimated to raise between $5-7m, will be auctioned off prior to Formula 1’s first sprint qualifying race. The auction will commence, while the car is being driven around Silverstone.

As RM Sotheby’s put it, the auction “marks the first time any Lewis Hamilton F1 race car, let alone a grand prix-winning car, has ever been offered for public sale”.

“While client confidentiality precludes knowing exactly how many cars exist in private ownership, it’s believed to be only a scarce few,” said RM Sotheby’s.

“As such these examples remain highly coveted and largely in private hands, unlikely to be sold in the near future.”

In 2010, while driving the McLaren Mercedes MP4-25A, Lewis won the Turkish, Canadian and Belgian grands prix.
