Loud boos aimed at Max Verstappen could be heard in Miami during the pre-race, and the podium ceremony. The Dutch driver gives his reaction.
Max Verstappen was loudly booed by the Miami crowd during the pre-race ceremony, and later again when he stepped on the top step on the podium.
Max doesn’t seem to be overly popular with the United States fans, as the same thing happened last year.
It’s hard to be sure why he receives such a reaction, but it is well known that Lewis Hamilton has a large number of supporters in the US, and these types of reactions were not common before the 2021 season, and its controversial ending.

Whatever the case may be, after the race Max was asked to give his comments on the ‘welcome’ he received.
“If I were driving in the back nobody would be doing anything in terms of reaction,” the Dutch driver said.
“I think it is normal when you are winning and they don’t like who is winning. It is something for me which is absolutely fine as long as I am standing on the top.
“To me, the most important thing is I take the trophy home and they go back to their houses and they can… have a nice evening,” he concluded.
