The Daily Mail reports Mercedes has hired private investigators to find out who sent the e-mail accusing the team of sabotaging Lewis Hamilton.
Ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix, the Daily Mail revealed they received an anonymous e-mail titled ‘A potential death warrant for Lewis’, supposedly from a member of Mercedes, which claimed that the team was purposely sabotaging Lewis Hamilton.
Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff has strongly denied the accusations and denied that it was sent by any employee of the team. He also announced the police has been called to find the person who sent it.
A Northamptonshire Police spokeswoman has since told the PA news agency that “no criminal offences were found to have been committed”, however they did advise Mercedes to report any similar future correspondence to the police.

Now, the Daily Mail reveals a Mercedes spokesperson has confirmed to them “that they had outsourced the matter to a firm that specialises in this kind of investigation”.
“It is being dealt with externally,” the spokesman was quoted as saying.
Daily Mail further reports that the spokesperson “indicated that the team believe the e-mail was sent by a random Hamilton fan”.
