Mercedes chairman and CEO Ola Källenius says “the cards will be reshuffled in 2026” and hints at Mercedes’ interest in Max Verstappen.
Ever since Lewis Hamilton’s departure from Mercedes at the end of 2024 was announced, team boss Toto Wolff has been very open about his interest in attracting Max Verstappen to fill the vacant spot.
However, now the chairman of the board of management of Mercedes-Benz Group and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Ola Källenius has also openly hinted at the manufacturer’s interest in the Dutch driver.
“The best driver wants to have the best car,” Källenius told Sky Sports Germany.
“And that’s our job, to bring the best package together.
“The cards will be reshuffled in 2026. New order with new rules. That’s also an opportunity. Who knows?
“But I think Max would look good in silver, wouldn’t he?” he concluded.

Interestingly, after the Spanish Grand Prix, when asked if there are any ongoing talks between Mercedes and Verstappen, Toto Wolff said there were none.
“There are no talks that are taking place at that stage,” the Austrian said.
“I think we need to look at ourselves and on improving the car.”
In fact, Toto said at this stage Mercedes is not even close to deciding on who will replace Hamilton.
“No driver decision has been made. We want to keep this decision as long as possible.
“Because who knows what happens?” Wolff concluded.
