Toto Wolff reponds to rumours going around in the paddock, saying that Mercedes’ new 2026 power unit will be the fastest on the grid.

In 2026 Formula 1 will embark on a new era of technical regulations, which will include completely new power units.

The last time such a change happened was in 2014, and at the time Mercedes’ power unit emerged as far and away the best on the grid.

Now, in an interview with Mundo Deportivo, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff was told that there is a rumour going around in the paddock saying that Mercedes’ power unit will be the fastest in 2026, and he was then asked to give his take on the situation.

“I think it’s always dangerous to believe rumours, because you might look like a fool in 2026 thinking you’re setting the standard and the benchmark, and then suddenly realizing you’re not there.

“So I prefer to see it on the track with the stopwatch in hand,” Wolff concluded.
