The FIA handed Mercedes a 5,000 euro fine for an Austrian Grand Prix Qualifying pitlane incident involving Lewis Hamilton.

After Austrian Grand Prix Qualifying, Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes representatives were summoned to the stewards for an incident that happened in Q3.

The issue was that after leaving the Mercedes garage, Lewis’ car appeared to be dragging a rear jack and extraction pipe into the pitlane.

Ultimately, the FIA found that the team had breached Article 34.14 a) for an unsafe release, and they issued Mercedes a 5,000 euro fine.

“The Stewards heard from the team representative and reviewed video evidence,” the verdict read.

“Competitors are reminded that they have the right to appeal certain decisions of the Stewards, in accordance with Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code and Chapter 4 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules, within the applicable time limits.

“Decisions of the Stewards are taken independently of the FIA and are based solely on the relevant regulations, guidelines and evidence presented,” the verdict concluded.
