Sebastian Vettel, Franz Tost and Jean Todt all agree Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport is one of the best Formula 1 teams in history.
Several Formula 1 personalities chimed in on Mercedes’ almost unprecedented run of success. Toro Rosso boss Franz Tost was full of praise for the German team.
“Mercedes is the most dominant team ever,” Tost told Auto Bild.
“Better than McLaren-Honda in the days of Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost, and more dominant than Ferrari in the Schumacher times.”
Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel agrees.
“Mercedes is close to perfection,” Vettel said.
“You could argue that their car was just better than ours, but that’s not the point. It’s a team effort.”
Even the FIA president Jean Todt, who led Ferrari during its most successful period in the late 90s and the 2000s, says Mercedes’ performance now might be even better than the Scuderia’s back in those days.
“I have to admit that they did better,” said Todt.
“It’s like an athlete who has to lift 200 kilos above his head and then keep it there.
“You need a great driver, a great car and a great team, and if you do not have those three things then it cannot work.”
