Ahead of Saudi Arabian Grand Prix Qualifying, Mercedes has announced they have swapped Valtteri Bottas power unit due to a detected fuel leak.
The team reports there was a fuel leak detected on Valtteri Bottas’ engine at the end of Saudi Arabian Grand Prix FP3, and they are unable to properly check the engine in time for qualifying.
“We had a fuel leak on VB’s PU at the end of FP3,“ said a Mercedes spokesperson.
“Without sufficient time to diagnose and resolve, we are swapping it for a unit from the pool.”
Since the team is switching to an older engine from Bottas’ pool, there will be no grid penalty.
