Mercedes’ junior driver and current Williams race driver George Russell completed 100 laps in a special Mercedes “mule car” to test Pirelli’s new 2021 tyres at the Yas Marina Circuit.

Mercedes was chosen to perform the testing and gather data on Pirelli’s new prototype tyres. Valtteri Bottas’ W10 chassis was modified for that purpose. Pirelli is in charge of the testing programme, while the gathered data is shared with each team, so that there is no advantage gained by the team performing the on-track work.

The new tyres were previously tested by Renault and McLaren at Paul Ricard earlier in the year. George Russell is scheduled to pilot the W10 one more time to perform further testing.
