After the Turkish Grand Prix Pirelli boss Mario Isola said he asked “allocated engineers to warn the teams to change the tyres”.

Lewis Hamilton wanted to finish the Turkish Grand Prix on one set of intermediate tyres, but ultimately the team decided to stop him eight laps before the end of the race.

The Briton was obviously not happy about this, as he was running in P3 before the stop, but ultimately finished the race in P5.

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff said he believes Hamilton should have been stopped even earlier, and now Pirelli boss Mario Isola says he doesn’t believe Lewis’ tyres would have lasted until the end of the race.

“The wear of the tyres, especially at the end of the race, they were running basically on the construction,” Isola said.

“It is a bit dangerous to push the boundaries like today. I fully understand that in a race condition they have to maximise the result. It was really, really at the limit.

“I was suggesting our allocated engineers to warn the teams to change the tyres, not to got to the end because it was a risky move,” concluded the Italian.
