Prominent bookmaker Paddy Power says Max Verstappen’s win came after “a dodgy decision from the race organizers who appeared to rip up the rulebook and go rogue for the final lap of the race”.

Not only was the controversial ending of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix shocking for fans of Lewis Hamilton, and sports in general, but it was also shocking for those who decided to bet on the results of the race and the 2021 championship.

Max Verstappen won the title after race director Michael Masi chose to ignore the Safety Car rules and protocols, which allowed Max Vestappen to easily overtake Lewis on the final lap of the race on fresh tyres.

Since then many drivers, celebrities, journalists and other observers have come out to blast the FIA’s decisions, but when you have bookies paying out money due to a ‘sporting injustice’, you know the result of the race is not considered to be legitimate.

Prominent international bookmaker Paddy Power has decided to pay out those who bet on Lewis Hamilton AND Max Verstappen to win the 2021 title.

“We at Paddy Power hate sporting injustices – so we’ve done our bit after a controversial end to the F1 season in Abu Dhabi,” Paddy Power wrote on their website.

“Max Verstappen needed a miracle to win, and one duly arrived in the form of a dodgy decision from the race organizers who appeared to rip up the rulebook and go rogue for the final lap of the race.

“A safety car was sent out with six laps left, and that allowed Verstappen to bolt on a new set of tires, and close a 10-second gap to Hamilton.

“Cue bedlam with Red Bull going wild celebrating, and Mercedes speechless and livid with the decision to allow some–but not all–of the lapped cars to get out of the way and gift Verstappen the win against a prone Hamilton.

“But none of that matters for Paddy Power punters, because we have decided to pay out on both Max Verstappen AND Lewis Hamilton to win the World Drivers Championship.

“And, for good measure, we’ve paid out on both Verstappen and Hamilton to win the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix too.

“Consider justice served,” they concluded.
