Red Bull’s Christian Horner says “there could be six teams in breach of the cap”, while Helmut Marko thinks “the current status is that six teams are over it”.
After saying the penalty Red Bull received for breaching the 2021 budget cap was “draconian”, team boss Christian Horner has now said that this has set the precedent for 2022.
He adds that he believes “several” F1 teams will be in breach.
“I think what we have set is a precedent,” Horner said.
“And it sets a precedent for 2022. And a danger for 2022 is that there could be six teams in breach of the cap. Energy prices have been exponential, but thankfully we’ve been protected from that.

“But there is that chance that several teams, many of which have stated it during F1 commission meetings, will break the cap this year,” the Briton concluded.
Red Bull’s advisor Dr Helmut Marko also expects six teams are in breach.
“I think the current status is that six teams are over it,” the Austrian told Auto Motor und Sport.
“Inflation is something that was not calculable to that extent, especially when it comes to energy costs,” he concluded.
