Formula 1 managing director Ross Brawn says Lewis Hamilton “will deserve the seventh title” and points out some differences between him and Michael Schumacher.

Ross Brawn had the opportunity to work with seven-time champion Michael Schumacher during his heyday at both Benetton and Ferrari, but also lured him out of retirement to kickstart Mercedes’ return to Formula 1 in 2010. However he also had the chance to observe Lewis Hamilton up close and personal in 2013, when the Briton moved from McLaren to Mercedes.

Brawn already praised Hamilton and compared him to the great German saying both him and Schumacher were able to “pull something out of nowhere” when needed. Now Hamilton has the opportunity to win his seventh world championship and equal Michael Schumacher’s record, a feat many thought was impossible to achieve.

“It’s a bit frustrating for me because it’s a record Michael holds,” said Brawn.

“But if [Hamilton] continues like this, he will deserve the seventh title. If he wins, it won’t be because of luck, but because he’s a fantastic driver.

“We’re talking about completely different periods and cars. And they have completely different personalities.

“Lewis has an incredible level of professionalism and he works hard, but Michael had an understanding of the details of his car that Lewis no longer needs these days,” concluded the Briton.
