Italian website formu1a.uno reports rumours that Mercedes has unlocked “double-digit” horsepower gains with their engine.

Italian website formu1a.uno reports they are hearing rumours that Mercedes has managed to unlock “double-digit” horsepower gains.

Since development of the engines has been frozen, it is expected that such a gain could be made through increased engine reliability.

Formu1a.uno also reports that the livery of the W14 will remain largely the same, but that it will feature even more carbon parts, in order to maximally decrease the weight of the car.

The outlet adds that the W14 is going to keep the infamous ‘zero sidepod’ concept that was first revealed at 2022 pre-season testing in Bahrain.

The innovative concept didn’t provide Mercedes with performance gains they expected in 2022, but team boss Toto Wolff has already explained on several occasions that it was not the reason for the W13’s issues.

In the end, Formu1a.uno reports that the W14 production schedule “was not fully respected” and so employees were asked to do extra work in the last few weeks.

According to the outlet, the problems had to do with the production of certain parts, as late modifications were made to the W14 project.

Keep in mind that all these rumours are completely unsubstantiated for now, but if the rumoured hp gains turn out to be true, it could bode well for Mercedes in 2023.
