At the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Thursday Drivers’ Press Conference George Russell appeared on behalf of Mercedes.

However when asked if he will be driving again for the team this weekend, Russell replied it was not clear at the moment.

“For now we are going ahead as planned and if Lewis returns with a negative result he will be back in the car,” said the Briton.

“[I’m doing] all the prep as normal. I was here this morning, working through with the engineers, Bono and the guys, treating everything as if I will be driving the Mercedes this weekend.”

However George is certain he will be driving for Williams next season regardless of his amazing performance at the Sakhir Grand Prix.

“Ultimately I have a contract and I’m a Williams driver for 2021.”

Recently rumours surfaced that Red Bull might be interested in Russell, however, when asked about it, the Briton gave a very diplomatic answer.

“My management is Mercedes. I signed a deal with Mercedes back in 2016 and they are my managers. They invested in me, they put faith in me and that means a huge amount.

“I am committed to Mercedes so I’m happy and confident with my position under their guidance,” concluded Russell.
