George Russell says when Lando Norris won his maiden F1 title, he sat in his car and “wanted to watch” because he thought that would “fuel” him, and “it has”.

Ahead of the Australian Grand Prix weekend, while talking to Sky Sport F1, George Russell revealed that watching his friend and colleague from the junior categories – Lando Norris – celebrate his maiden title win, has ‘fuelled’ him.

“I watched Lando celebrate and I sat in my car as I pulled in from the pits in Abu Dhabi,” Russell told Sky Sports’ Craig Slater.

“I wanted to watch because I thought that would fuel me more, and I think it has.”

However, while talking about his expectations for the 2026 season, he remained level-headed.

“I feel ready to give it everything and that’s ultimately all we can do. We don’t know what will happen but I know I’m giving it everything and my team are giving it everything.

“What will be, will be. As we sit hear now, there’s not much more we could have done.

“For sure, we can learn a lot this weekend and there will be things we haven’t thought about,” the Briton concluded.

George has since managed to put his car on pole for the Australian Grand Prix, with his team-mate Kimi Antonelli in P2.
