Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff says he regrets the war of words he had with Red Bull team boss Christian Horner throughout the 2021 season.

The 2021 season has been fought hard on and off the track. While Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen provided many exciting on-track battles, Toto Wolff and Christian Horner kept the media occupied with their fierce war of words.

Wolff now says he regrets that things got so heated between them.

“I really regret it,” the Austrian told Dutch magazine Formule 1.

“I always try to stay professional, approach things professionally. However, it got very personal between the two of us at some point.

“At one point he told me to shut up. Then I responded by saying he was a windbag and talked too much for the cameras.

“I shouldn’t have said that because it’s a professional relationship and you know that even your worst enemy has a best friend.

“You have to respect that person, even if you fight a hard duel.”

He then revealed his wife Susie gave him advice on the issue.

“Susie pointed that out to me very clearly. She said, ‘Why are you having these kinds of discussions? You’re trying to win, respect that. Even if someone goes in that direction, you don’t have to’.

“That’s called female social intelligence! We sometimes have too much hormones,” Wolff concluded.
