Red Bull has recently raised some concerns regarding Mercedes’ power unit. Toto Wolff says he loves the fact that this is providing a distraction for the Austrian team.

Ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix Red Bull had asked the FIA to investigate Mercedes’ power unit, as they are suspecting the German team is gaining an unfair advantage from engine cooling, by allegedly using a ‘trick’ with the sensors that monitor the engine’s inlet plenum temperatures.

Toto Wolff was asked about this, and he finds it amusing.

“We love the fact that they are spending time on these things and researching and we welcome very much any intuitive that they wish to do and then look at it,” Wolff told Sky Sports F1.

“If that is a distraction for the other teams than that is good.”

At the Dutch Grand Prix Friday press conference he said he learned of Red Bull’s query “a couple of days ago”.

“I heard the first time about it a couple of days ago. I would wish we had some kind of special solution but it’s the modus operandi in Formula 1, business as usual.

“Queries are being taken to the FIA, questions are being asked. That’s completely normal,” concluded the Austrian.
