Toto Wolff says “there’s not a millimetre of doubt” in him that Lewis Hamilton will sing a new contract with Mercedes, and adds “if we give Lewis a competitive car, he will win for a long time”.
The big rumour making the rounds today is that Ferrari is preparing a big £40million offer to get Lewis Hamilton to jump ship from Mercedes.
The rumour was started by the Daily Mail, who claim that they learned of this from unnamed ‘sources’, so as of right now it is completely unsubstantiated.
Furthermore, just two days ago the Österreich newspaper published an interview with Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff, where they asked him about the speculation that Lewis could be on his way to Ferrari.
“These rumours come up every two years when we have to sign a new contract,” Wolff said.
“But none of this is true. We discuss normally, without any time pressure.”
When it was put to Toto that Lewis said it was hard to negotiate with him, the Austrian responded:

“I said that too. It’s just uncomfortable that two friends, two blood brothers who have been through thick and thin for ten years, suddenly have to discuss money.”
Asked if he believes Lewis will sign a new contract with Mercedes, Toto said:
“I’m firmly convinced that we’ll find each other, there’s not a millimetre of doubt for me.”
And finally, the Österreich put to Toto that Lewis told Mathia Lauda he wants to race for years to come, and then they asked him if he believes this will be with Mercedes?
“I can’t imagine anything else,” Toto said.
“If we give Lewis a competitive car, he will win for a long time. Look at Tom Brady what he was still capable of in his 40s,” Wolff concluded.
