At the Miami Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell were on different strategies, and so at one point Mercedes asked Lewis to move over for the young Briton.

“We have George 1.1 behind,” Lewis’ race engineer Bono said.

“We aren’t racing him. We are racing Esteban Ocon. So let’s not hold each other up.”

Lewis then replied: “He can go by but I am not backing off though.”

He then let George through, and ultimately they finished in P4 and P6 respectively.

After the race, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff was asked if he expected any issues to arise when the team asked Lewis to move over.

“No, absolutely not,” the Austrian said.

“George was a stop ahead. To see two teammates, both on very good levels, they are both so straightforward.

“That is good at such a difficult moment,” Wolff concluded.
