After Mercedes locked out the front row for the British Grand Prix, team boss Toto Wolff says their drivers need to be careful because they have “an opportunity here”.
After struggling for two and a half years, at British Grand Prix Qualifying, Mercedes amazingly managed to lock out the front row.
After the session, team boss Toto Wolff was equally as amazed.
“It sounds incredible,” the Austrian told Sky Sports F1.
“You mention the GP winner from Austria and now we have a front-row lockout. Who would have thought that a few months ago?”
Asked whether the team was confident coming into the session, Wolff said:
“Not so. Maybe also we are thinking about karma. You don’t want to get ahead of yourself just because you’re doing these first good steps, and the same as well for tomorrow.

“We were hoping for wet when we went so well in FP3 but also now, that was really positive to see. I think the weather helps.
“It’s British weather and we want to keep that for the rest of the summer wherever we go.
“At the end here, I’m happy that we were able to do it honestly and on merit. But we mustn’t praise the day before the evening.”
With George Russell starting from P1 and Lewis Hamilton from P2, the team is obviously hoping nothing bad will happen between their drivers.
“We’re talking about it every Sunday, and we are not trying to be a broken record, but we have an opportunity [to win the race].
“We are starting first and second and as long as we can hold that for a while, it would be good and gives us a better position,” Wolff concluded.
